PDIP Activist Urges Police to Expose May 22 Riot Mastermind

27 May 2019 13:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician Adian Napitupulu urged police personnel to truly uncover the mastermind behind the May 22 riots that broke out in Central Jakarta.

He mentioned the pieces of evidence that can be extracted from witness testimonies and audio and video recordings that he believes can be obtained by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) but mentioned that police’s willingness to reveal it is more important.

“It is their courage that counts in exposing the true mastermind,” said Adian on Monday, May 27. “I really expect police members will have the courage to reveal it.”

Moreover, Adian said that the timing is the utmost important element that needs to be considered upon preventing the public from over speculating and form their own baseless conclusion.

Adian mentioned past human tragedies that have progressed without offering any explanation such as the Marsinah murder, the July 27, 1996 mystery, 1984 Tanjung Priok mystery, the shootings of Trisakti and Semanggi students, and the May 1998 bloody riots.

“Don’t add the list of mysteries,” said the 1998 activist. “We highly blast those who were behind the riot.”
